FINER POINTS OF THE LAW
There are 613 Laws in the Torah or first five books of the Bible. Many are enlarged upon or clarified in other Books, including those of the New Testament. Certain Laws have been improved so do not have to be kept in the same manner prescribed in the Torah. For example Yahshua Messiah has replaced Aaron’s sons as High Priest. The Levitical priesthood has reverted back to that of the firstborn. The sacrifice of animals has been replaced by Yahshua’s on the cross. However, what of the many other Laws thought by all but Orthodox Jews to be obsolete? Let us take a look at some.
Bind the Law upon our hands and minds.
DEUTERONOMY 6:8 (BoY) …tie them as symbols upon your hand, and they shall be as a distinguishing mark in the eyes of everyone.
The mark of Cain was not a literal mark on his body, but a characteristic of violence–which many have today. PSALM 37:37 says mark the perfect man meaning the mark of a perfect man is his uprightness and peace. The Law here is commanding us to show through the work of our hands that we are YHWH’s or Law-abiding, and a witness of Him in the eyes of others. That we are an example of YHWH Himself. This should be so natural to us it is like we are bound to the Laws and being directed by them.
Make tassels on the corners of their garments.
NUMBERS 15:38 Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations…that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of YHWH, and do them; and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes…and be holy unto your Father.
There were 613 tassels in the fringe of these garments that the men of Israel wore–one tassel for each Law. Yahshua Himself wore a very expensive seamless garment with these fringes. He was not ragged, long-haired, and unkempt as depicted in most movies and books. Indeed He had about 20 people travelling with Him ministering to His daily needs. The woman with the issue of blood (MATT. 9:20, MARK 5:25, LUKE 8:43-44) was healed when she touched these tassels–a powerful symbol that Yahshua’s righteousness was based on the Law, and that the woman seeking healing knew that.
If ours truly were nations that followed YHWH’s Law, every boy could have a bar-mitzvah-like ceremony celebrating his manhood where he is presented with a fringed overcoat. We could wear looser fringed shirts and dresses instead of following often indecent fashion fads. These tassels would be a daily reminder of YHWH and His Laws.
Preach and publish YHWH’s Laws.
DEUTERONOMY 6:9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.
Imagine if Scriptures greeted a visitor to every house. Imagine for a moment if our public buildings had the Ten Commandments and other perfect Laws of love and liberty displayed prominently so that all who enter may see them. Our courthouses, houses of parliament, businesses, cemeteries–everywhere that citizens are expected to behave properly, which is simply everywhere–should have YHWH’s Words written for all to read and remember. What a difference this would make to our society. From the cradle to the grave all would know the right way to live and be without excuse.
Not only that but if, as is written in DEUTERONOMY 31:10-13, we gathered for the reading of the Law every Seventh Year so there was a cancelling of debts. If we taught the Law diligently to our children as commanded in DEUTERONOMY 6:7. Undoubtedly crime would be drastically reduced. As a consequence so would accidents, sickness, mental diseases, hatred, anger, bitterness, and unforgiveness, juvenile delinquency, the need for big government and much of the legal system including police numbers.
There would be no such people as lawyers for they did not exist in YHWH’s Law. A person charged with the breaking of certain laws that prescribed a penalty was brought by his or her accusers before a council of elders. The Law-breaker and any witnesses were examined separately. If the witness statements did not agree, the charged person was found not guilty. If at least two witnesses agreed, the person was deemed to be guilty with the penalty according to the Law applied. Anyone found guilty of a sin unto death (I JOHN 5:16), that is, murder, rape, or adultery, where the penalty was death, was immediately taken and stoned. Capital punishment was not inflicted as a deterrent but to remove the evil person from among the innocent and cleanse the land.
It is an evil thing in YHWH’s eyes to release a murderer or rapist back into the community after a mere prison sentence, with the possibility that the offence will be recommitted. We destroy innocent unborn children, yet allow murderers to walk freely among us.
