Let us follow up the previous posts about the Law with some of the many Scriptures that give evidence for and explain the full keeping of it.
First there is LUKE 19:8-9. Did you know that Zacchaeus the tax collector was saved from his sins of cheating the poor before Yahshua died? Yahshua’s mere presence at Zacchaeus’ house convicted him. But what saved him? His repentance and adherence to the Law: to make restitution to those he had defrauded, and give tithes to the poor as is commanded in EXODUS 22:1, LEVITICUS 6:5, and NUMBERS 5:7. So Yahshua was able to pronounce, “This day is salvation come to this house.”
Apart from the death and resurrection of Yahshua Messiah, what did the apostles preach, in view of the fact the Gospels were not written at the time of the birth of the early Church? Mostly they did not even preach Yahshua’s words; they preached from the Old Testament as a study of ACTS will show. Did the apostles preach against obeying the Law? YHWH forbid, as Paul would say–no, he did not! He reinforced it, when he exhorted his audience to repent and be baptized…upon the forgiveness of their sins (transgression of the Law), and be saved.
In ACTS 5:1-11 we find Ananias and Sapphira dropping dead after deliberately lying. There is no sacrifice for deliberate sin, as stated in NUMBERS 15:30-31 and EZEKIEL 18:24. Paul reinforced this in HEBREWS 10:26-27. Let me repeat that: There is no sacrifice for deliberate sin. I might add, if Ananias and Sapphira had known they were going to drop dead after their lie, would they have uttered it? One would not imagine so. Yet the lie was considered premeditated enough by the Most High to judge them thus. They must have known that particular Law, so were without excuse.
Then in ACTS 6 and 7 we meet Stephen, a man full of faith, the Spirit of YHWH, and power to do great signs and wonders, giving his famous testimony before the Sanhedrin. Stephen’s last words to these men before being dragged out to be stones were about the Law: “(You) Who have received the Law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept it” (7:53).
What determines if a person is given the Holy Spirit, power, and authority to do great signs and wonders as Yahshua did? According to ACTS 5:32:
And we are His witnesses of these things, and so is also the Holy (Spirit), whom YHWH hath given to them that obey Him.
The Holy Spirit is only given to those believers who obey YHWH’s will. His will is initially made known to us in the first five books of His Word–the Law.
Yahshua says in JOHN 4:24:
Yahshua is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.
How does one worship in spirit? ‘Spirit’, Greek word #4151: rational soul, mental disposition, Holy Spirit, mind. ‘Spiritual’, Greek word #4152: non-carnal, a spirit, religious (as opposed to gross or sinful). To be carnal is to be worldly or sinful, so clearly to worship YHWH in spirit means to have our full mental faculties disposed towards Him and not towards sinfulness. Paul in ROMANS 7:14 (Book of Yahweh) spells out what is meant by ‘spiritual’:
For we know that the Law is spiritual: but I was carnal, sold into the power of sin.
The Law and spiritual are one and the same, while carnal and sinful are opposite to them.
There is in fact a Satanic deception in the Church – that we become spiritual just by being Christian, and the Laws are worldly, legalistic, and physical. The truth is we become spiritual by being led by the Holy Spirit to obey YHWH–through observance of His Laws–and fulfilling all righteousness. Faith without works (of the Law) is dead, says James (2:17).
Scripture by illuminative Scripture, here are some more:
GENESIS 17:1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, YHWH appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty Father; walk before Me, and be thou perfect.
II SAMUEL 22:31 (BoY) Yahweh, His way is perfect; the Law of Yahweh is without flaw… 22:33 He makes my way perfect.
PSALM 19:7 The Law of YHWH is perfect, converting the soul:
MATTHEW 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in Heaven is perfect.
COLOSSIANS 1:28 Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Messiah Yahshua.
Yahshua was the first to be perfected according to YHWH’s standard of perfection. That standard is sinlessness.–Yahshua broke no Law.
HEBREWS 5:9 And being made perfect, He became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey Him.
Yahshua had to be perfected by His works before He could become our Saviour. We are only saved from sins–already committed–if we accept Yahshua’s works, His sinless life, and His death on the cross, as ours. Afterwards we remain righteous and are perfected by obeying YHWH’s Laws, commandments, and will.
