At this point we will look at some other Scriptures that are often quoted as meaning the Old Testament dietary Laws are ‘done away with’.
The first of these is MARK 7:18-19 (NASB):
And He said to them, “Are you so lacking in understanding also? Do you not understand that whatever goes into the man from outside cannot defile him; because it does not go into his heart, but into his stomach and is eliminated?” (Thus He declared all foods clean.)
The sentence in brackets is not in the original manuscripts, so has been added later by a lying scribe or YHWH only knows who. It is not even in the King James Bible!
Yahshua is here, as in LUKE 11:38-41, debating the Pharisees and scribes about their ritual washing of hands before eating. He is not talking about food, but specifically the germs and other matter on unwashed hands. The ritual is not one of YHWH’s, but a man-made law or tradition. Yahshua rightly points out that no amount of ritual washing with water will cleanse the hands of a person whose heart is defiled by sin. The Teacher is, therefore, speaking in a spiritual context.
If Yahshua had meant that suddenly everyone could eat anything, including unclean meat, fowl, seafood, and other creatures, His audience would have erupted in volcanic anger. They would rightly have been able to drag Him before the Sanhedrin for breaking the Law or inciting others to do so. Didn’t Yahshua keep all points of the Law perfectly? Furthermore, if the dietary Laws were annulled, we would be allowed to eat any creature including vultures, hyenas, maggots, moths, lions, leopards, bears, etc. But who would want to? These were created for YHWH’s purposes of which eating is not one.
