Do We or Don’t We?

Looking again at MATTHEW 5:17-20, we find Yahshua saying first up in this passage: Think not that I am come to destroy the Law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy but to fulfilIt was once stated to me by the pastor of a large Baptist Church that Yahshua “…fulfilled the Law so we don’t have to“! Strangely enough, I have never been able to find those words ‘so we don’t have to’, after, anywhere near, or in relation to this Scripture. However I have found the stern warning: If any man shall add unto these things (YHWH’s Word), YHWH shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book (REV. 22:18).

Just in case anyone is confused by the word fulfil believing it to mean ‘finish’, that is, it is finished, making the Law unnecessary for us to keep, let us look at the meaning: Strong’s Greek word #4137 pleroo–to make replete, satisfy, execute an office, finish a period or task, verify a prediction, accomplish, complete, to preach or explain fully, perfect, supply. It would have been more accurate to translate the word fulfil as ‘establish’ like the Book of Yahweh has done. Establish means to make steadfast, settle on a permanent basis, to fix unalterably, to institute or ratify, etc (according to my Home Study Dictionary). Whatever else we make of it, we surely cannot conclude that we are not to fulfil the Law because Yahshua made a complete end of it. Our Saviour fulfilled the Law by becoming the supreme sacrificial lamb, exactly meeting the conditions of that Law in every way.
